Cyborg Over Goddess
Cyborg over goddess encapsulates the genesis of a new paradigm, reshaping our understanding of AI by employing it as a design tool to challenge traditional notions of the human body. Donna Haraway's declaration, "I would rather be a cyborg than a goddess," echoes through this project, paying homage to her Cyborg Manifesto.
The core objective is to blur visual boundaries, inviting observers to dissect their own image from this abstract AI-generated artwork. This deliberate attempt to confuse the human eye and challenge the human mind aims to evoke a sense of discomfort, pushing individuals to confront and question their perceptions of the face and body. We discover more about ourselves as humans when we experience art made by others, making art a vehicle for social change and therefore the artist a driver for this change. This project grants an opportunity to shift from the physical limitations of anthropometry to boundless forms within self-expression in the virtual realm.
Through training LoRA models on my previous work, it is to my understanding that an AI models knowledge is limited to what you teach it. This lead me to questioning whether there is a certain innocence within this practice that I can utilise through reimagining the human body. Therefore, collaborating with AI has cultivated a unique perception of beauty, divorced from comparison and physical scrutiny. This is an ongoing project I will be working on to delve deeper into disseminating the ‘goddess’ in cyberspace.
